National Dog Day is right around the corner on August 26th. If you’re planning on taking a vacay to New Orleans to celebrate, you don’t need to leave your furry friend at home. The Andrew Jackson Hotel is proud to be a pet-friendly hotel, and there are plenty of ways to spend time with Fido in the Crescent City.

Parks of All Kinds

New Orleans may be a big city, but that doesn’t mean it’s lacking in green space. One of the main attractions of the city to many tourists is all of its natural beauty. Practically everywhere you look in NOLA, you’ll find canopies of trees, blooming flowers, and animals of all kinds. Visitors can enjoy all of these attractions at any of New Orleans’s beautiful parks, like the more than 300 acres of Audubon Park in Uptown and the 1,300 acres of City Park in Mid-City.

Take your furry friend along the paths in the parks for a leisurely stroll or explore the greenery off the paths.

City Bark

Located inside of City Park is NOLA’s City Bark. This is a nearly five acre off-leash dog park that has separate areas of play for big and small dogs. With this separation, all dogs have a place to safely play. City Bark even has water fountains for your pooch.

Mystic Krewe of Barkus

Although Mardi Gras is several months away from National Dog Day, there’s no better way to celebrate your dog than to take him to a parade thrown in his honor! The Mystic Krewe of Barkus is a walking Mardi Gras krewe that features all kinds of good pups in costumes throughout the French Quarter.

Dat Dog

What better way to hang out with your dog than while enjoying a hot dog? Dat Dog, a New Orleans hot dog chain, has several locations throughout the city, each of which is very dog-friendly.

Order yourself a gourmet hot dog and tots inside while your pet sips on some water in one of the many water bowls provided on the outdoor patios. You can even order a hot dog without a bun for your puppy to enjoy. Plus, many other fabulous restaurants in the Big Easy offer patio seating, perfect for dining al fresco with your canine companion.

After a long day enjoying the dog-friendly sites of New Orleans, snuggle up with your best pal in the comfort of your charming French Quarter hotel room. The Andrew Jackson Hotel allows up to two pets max for only $35 per stay.  If you're more of a cat person, no problem, your friendly feline is also welcome.
